My Background

For 10 years I managed web sites for the eThekwini Municipality, starting with the sites for the Parks and Recreation unit and then moving to www.durban.gov.za and a staff intranet.

During this time I learned how to research user needs and how to make web sites easy to use.

I learned about writing for the web, how to use pictures on a web site and how to label and structure your information.

I did a good deal of work on the graphic design of sites (in conjunction with designers).

I worked on six major site re-designs, so I learnt quite a bit about software project management as well.

I looked at Search Engine Optimization (ensuring that the sites were picked up in search engines). www.durban.gov.za is consistently in the top returns for Google searches on ‘Durban’.

Qualifications

I hold a BA Honours in English, a diploma in Library Science and an MBA in E-Commerce.

I am a qualified Project Manager; I have passed the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam of the Project Management Institute of the USA and the Prince II Practitioner qualification offered by the United Kingdom Office of Government Commerce.
